What is STEM To Go?

STEM is a term used to describe an applied approach of educating  in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. President Barack Obama said,  “[Science] is more than a school subject, or the periodic table, or the properties of waves. It is an approach to the world, a critical way to understand and explore and engage with the world, and then have the capacity to change that world…” Learning does not end when a child walks out of school. At Paul Smith Library, we want encourage children to explore and grow. Our programs and resources help to promote life long learning.

We recently added a new section in our children’s area at Paul Smith Library, STEM To Go. The section features a variety of kits and toys which can be checked out for a one week period. At first glance you may think we just added fun new toys for kids to bring home, but the carefully selected items actually help to foster critical thinking, problem solving and motor skills. Check out the pictures below of our recently added STEM to Go Items. We also have a monthly STEM Saturday event where children ages 3-12 can play and explore. The next STEM Saturday will take place on April 27.
