Where do I find York County Libraries?

York County Libraries include 13 full-service public libraries and three satellite locations nestled amidst the rolling hills of beautiful York County, Pennsylvania. We are just south of the State Capitol in Harrisburg, and North of neighboring state Maryland. Spanning urban, suburban, and rural areas, York County Libraries are conveniently located in Brogue, Dillsburg, Dover, Etters, Glen Rock, Hanover, Hellam, Jacobus, Red Lion, Shrewsbury, Spring Grove, Stewartstown, and York City. The satellite locations provide a smaller menu of services to residents living in Manchester Township and Springettsbury Township!

No matter where you are in York County, there’s a library near you!

How do I get a library card?

Getting a library card is easy! Simply fill out an application form at any of our full-service libraries or click here.

How much does it cost?

Nothing! Free! A York County Libraries card is free to everyone who lives or works in York County, for students attending college in York County, and for Pennsylvania residents with Access PA status! Non-Pennsylvania residents can purchase a $25 subscription card to access library services.

Should my kids have their own cards? Or can they just use mine?

While a parent or guardian can use their card to check out materials for a child, we highly recommend getting the child their own card. There is no minimum age to having a library card, so even our youngest members are welcome to have a card and library account of their very own!

There are many benefits to children having their own cards. For instance, in order to participate in Summer Quest, children must have their own library card. Having their own card is also a great way to start teaching responsibility!

Where can I use my library card?

You can use your York County library at any of our 13 full-service public libraries! You can also use your library card to request items be sent to any of our Pick-up/Drop-off sites.

How many items can I borrow at one time?

When it comes to books, you are welcome to borrow as many as you can carry! We do not have checkout limitations on print items or audiobooks. However, we do limit members to having 10 DVDs out at a time.

For more information about our borrowing policies, please refer to our Uniform Borrowing Practices.

How long can I borrow items?

Books and audiobooks can be borrowed for 3 weeks at a time! DVDs and CDs lend for one week. At the end of your borrowing period, you can renew your items either online or at the library.

Note: New library items and items with pre-existing holds are non-renewable.

The book I want is at a different library, do you deliver?

Yes, we do! If the item you want is checked out, or at a different location, you are welcome to place an item hold—either through the circulation desk staff, or through our online catalog. Simply specify which library location you would like to pick the item up at, and as soon as it is available, we will have it delivered there!

If an item is not owned by York County Libraries, you may Suggest a Purchase or request an InterLibrary Loan from outside York County, PA.

Do you have public access computers?

Absolutely! All of our full-service libraries have computers that are available for public use. We also offer printing, copying, and scanning services at our libraries. Check the Find a Library page for your local library for more specifics!
