Tell your story

What’s a library story? It’s a story that tells others how the library has impacted you! Did the library help you overcome a problem? Explore a new idea? Meet new people? Share your story and help inspire others to discover all that waits for them at their library!

What makes for a great library story?
Please include as many details as you can in your story. These might include:

  • The setting of your story
  • The names of the people involved
  • The problem that the library helped you to overcome
  • The result of your interaction at the library
  • Any change or impact to your life

Details help! “I love the library because of all the books they have.” Doesn’t offer details. But this library story with details might be, “Librarian Suzy Q introduced me to Anne Perry novels. I love how those books let me explore another time in history. The mysteries challenge me to solve the problems before the detective does. I even made a friend through our shared love of reading these books!”

Tips for a great library story

Just like your favorite books, details matter!

Please include as many details as you can in your story. These might include:

  • Where and when your story takes place
  • Who are the people involved?
  • What problem did the library helped you overcome?
  • The result of your interaction at the library
  • Any change or impact to your life

Details really do help! “I love the library because of all the books they have,” might be true, but it doesn’t offer many details.

The same simple library story with details might read like this: “Librarian Suzy Q at Dillsburg Library introduced me to Anne Perry novels. I love how those books let me explore another time in history. The mysteries challenge me to solve the problems before the detective does. I even made a friend through our shared love of reading these books when I joined the book club!”

This is a short example. Your story will probably be much longer, and that’s great! We look forward to reading it.

Just do your best! If writing or typing is difficult, you can send us a voice recording or a video of you telling your story. Or ask a staff member to submit your story for you (call ahead so they can make time to help you).
