Featured Artist: Bill Andrew

Bill Andrew is the Dillsburg Area Public Library’s featured artist for November and December 2021. Art wall guru Shelby Pizzarro caught up with him for the following interview:

What is the source of your inspiration?

All forms of Nature. I love being outside – running, kayaking, or biking. I’m always looking at my surroundings and get inspired by colors and shapes.

How would you describe your art?

Realistic – I don’t have a style. I just do what makes me feel good!

What do you enjoy most about creating new art?

Having freedom to do anything I want and having the time to do it! Love trying new mediums to work with. Just painting bores me!

How do you start new work? Is your process always the same? If not, how does it change?

Always different – Depends on the medium.

Do you have a favourite or “go to” technique when starting a work?

No. I just get an idea and start in watercolor. I might do some sketches.

Do you have a favourite medium? Has your preference changed over the years?

I always loved watercolor. But in Art School I was introduced to printmaking, and that was my Major.

Do you ever experience a creative block? If so, how do you rejuvenate your creativity?

No. I always have more ideas than time.

How have you managed to stay creative during the COVID-19 Pandemic?

For me it was great. I had time to edition woodblock prints. I had finished 15 in all! Kept me from playing racquetball and pickleball – Staying home was great!

Do you have a favourite/inspirational quote?

Only one I can think of – Art is Life – Life is Art.

Do you have any current or future projects you’d like to share?

I plan to do more sculpture work with found objects and some collage images with mixed medium!
