National Volunteer Week

Last week, the Dillsburg Area Public Library joined many organizations around the country in celebrating National Volunteer Week. These groups benefit from the hard work provided by volunteers. For all practical purposes, some non-profits would not be able to operate without their efforts. Our volunteers staff the circulation desk, assist with special events, shelve books, prep materials, sell Giant gift cards, and many other things. They provided over 2500 hours of service to the library in 2017.

Our all-volunteer Friends of the Library is also very active. It holds two book sales per year that raised over $2300 in 2017. They plan, sort books, set up, and sell gently used items. (Next sale is May 5, 7-12 at the Library!)

One group of volunteers often flys under the radar. You won’t seem them behind the circulation desk, but they are of vital importance to the successful operation of the library. The Library Board is the governing body that ensures that the library operates smoothly and in accordance with all rules and regulations. They make decisions and set policy, raise funds, and advocate for the library in the community. We could not operate without them. They, and all of our volunteers, are the Dillsburg Area Public Library’s Unsung Heroes. A tip of the cap to all!

We are always looking for more volunteers who are interested in helping the community. No experience is necessary, but the rewards are great! If you are interested in volunteering, contact our volunteer coordinator Amy VanZandt ([email protected]).

Many non-profits in Dillsburg and beyond rely on volunteers. There are many great causes out there, find one you love and help them out.
