1000 Books Before Kindergarten

How to prepare your child to succeed:

Read 1000 Books Before Kindergarten

To encourage York County families to read with their young children, we now offer an exciting new program: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This is an offshoot of a national program made with our unique style of fun style of fun.

Just one book a day can make the difference for your child

Research presented at the 2017 Pediatric Academic Societies meeting shows that reading books with a child beginning in early infancy can boost vocabulary and reading skills four years later, before the start of elementary school.  It’s never too soon to start reading to your child.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is simple

1000 Books makes it fun to build a daily habit of reading with your child. Read 1000 books with your newborn, infant, toddler, or preschooler before they begin Kindergarten. You can begin as soon as your child is born or later, right up until the day they begin Kindergarten.

Reach your reading goals and earn prizes

Track your reading, come into your library to celebrate reaching your reading goals (every 100 books you read together) and take some special prizes home at the 500 and 1000 book achievement levels. It’s easier to read 1000 books than you might think.  📗📗📗Read any three books a day with your child and you’re finished in less than one year.  📙📙If you read two books a day together, you’re done in less than two years.  You decide how you want to read your 1000 books. These are just some examples of how you could reach your reading goal.  It’s up to you how you do it. 😊
