Don recommends Clemente by David Maraniss

“Great read about a complex personality, and one of the great baseball players of all time, Roberto Clemente. Beloved by all who knew him, his acts of love and kindness are truly inspirational.”

Laurie read Small Great Things by Jodi Piccoult.

“I think it is a worthy read for us all, especially with the current climate of our country.”
Gina also read this book—in one weekend! She couldn’t put it down!  In her words: “All I can say is that since reading this book, I am noticing things in society that I didn’t before. It is eye-opening and poignant and heart-wrenching all at once.”

Julie is reading Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance

It’s the true story about the author and his family growing up in poverty.  Another very popular book right now!

Gina is reading Smack by Melvin Burgess for our teen program Part of the Story.

It’s several stories woven into one about opioid addiction set in the 1980s.  Although this is part of our Young Adult collection, this book would be appropriate for adults to read also.   I find it disturbing that it is so relevant to today’s events, especially in Yok County, and I look forward to hearing our teen readers’ responses to the book and how it relates to them and their lives now.
