Glatfelter Memorial Library to Honor Sarah Barnhart

SPRING GROVE – Glatfelter Memorial Library will recognize Sarah Barnhart during an honors program and reception at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12. The event will be held at the library at 101 Glenview Road in Spring Grove. Community members are welcome to attend and should RSVP by November 1 at the library or online at donate.yorklibraries.org.

The honors program recognizes leaders who make the community a better place to live and learn. “We are so excited to honor Sarah at the community library where she found inspiration through books,” says Glatfelter Memorial Library Honors Committee Chair Kristen Henning. “She took the knowledge she learned in a book to create a business and career that shaped her entire future.”

Barnhart regularly visited the library and read everything she could, including textbooks. Her passion for handmade soap and bath products began in eighth grade when she discovered a book on soap making at the Glatfelter Memorial Library. She was just 14 years old when she started Green Daisy Soaps and has continued growing the business over the last 12 years. During that time, she also graduated from college debt-free with a degree in chemistry thanks to Green Daisy Soaps. Barnhart is pursuing a career in analytical chemistry and will attend graduate school in 2024.

“It is admirable how Sarah’s literary curiosity ignited her studies and career,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “She truly personifies how books and libraries can transform lives.” The upcoming ceremony will feature tributes to Barnhart by several guest speakers. They include Lauren Zavatsky, Lindsay Hamilton, and Sherry Stambaugh.

A key component of the Glatfelter Memorial Library Honors event is to raise funds to continue providing valuable services and programs to the community. Contributions to the Honors Fund are welcome by donating securely online at donate.yorklibraries.org or by mail to the Glatfelter Memorial Library Honors Fund c/o York County Libraries, 159 East Market Street, York, PA 17401. Anyone with questions about the upcoming event should contact Kristen Henning at  [email protected] or 717-817-4882.

Public libraries are full of inspiration and Sarah definitely discovered this when she found a book on soap making at the Glatfelter Memorial Library which led to her starting Green Daisy Soaps and to a career in chemistry,” says Glatfelter Memorial Library Manager Tammy Brindle. “You never know what you will find when you visit your library.”

Glatfelter Memorial Library is located at 101 Glenview Road in Spring Grove and is a branch of York County Libraries.  It actively serves the community with educational programming, resources, and technology access. The library’s popular read-to-the-dogs program “Library Tales for Tails” has been featured nationally in Woman’s Day Magazine.
