‘Tis the Season!

Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock will be hoppin’ this holiday season! Here are the latest happenings for the months of November and December at the library:

Taste of the Valley Annual Fundraising Event: Local Food, Local Music, Local Wine.

Friday, November 3, 2017, we will be hosting a night of eating, listening to music and sipping a variety of local wines. There will an auction, many things being raffled off and a return of the Christmas shop, now re-named The Black Lantern Boutique which will be stocked with local artist’s and crafter’s works. We will have 3 Dollar Suit’s danceable variety of tunes as our performers and Festive Board as our caterers, providing finger foods and platters of tasty items. The Friends of the Library and other volunteers will provide delicious homemade desserts. Local guests Jackson Square Vineyard and Logan’s View Winery will provide the wines. All sales, auction transactions and raffle tickets purchased will benefit the library. Tickets are $35 each/$70 per couple. Updates and photos on the designated Facebook page.

This event kicks off the opening of The Black Lantern Boutique. After Taste of the Valley, the Boutique will be downsized and housed in the foyer’s glass case as well as a special bookcase inside the library. This means the items will be available for purchase from November 3, 2017 until January 1, 2018, during regular library hours as well as during the train garden hours throughout the month of December.

Which brings us to our next item: The firefighters will be hosting their Christmas Train Garden

again this year, in the library building, down the hall. This is Hose & Ladder’s biggest fundraiser all year as well. Bring the kids! There are fun things to do, like an I Spy-type game within one of the train gardens. Refreshments will be available for purchase.  (Please note: this is not the library’s program; it is independently run by Hose & Ladder.) Train garden hours will be in our newsletter for November/December, as well as posted on the front doors. Thank you!

And finally, the one you’ve all been waiting for: The Annual Friends of the Library Holiday Book Sale!

That’s right, a few weeks after Taste of the Valley; we will be lining the hall and foyer with books. You’ll be able to shop during regular library hours, as well as during train garden hours from the end of November until the beginning of January 2018.  Hardcover books, audiobooks and DVD’s are $1 while all softcover/paperbacks are $.50. We have all your favorites and a few hidden gems. We look forward to patrons loitering in our hallways, perusing books. This is the only time all year loitering is encouraged!
