Supporting 21st century literacies: York County Libraries recognized as PA Forward Star Libraries

Libraries have moved far beyond just being book warehouses. We’re agile institutions serving real-life needs.  Libraries can be key to powering progress and elevating the quality of life in PA by fueling the types of knowledge essential to success: Basic Literacy, Information Literacy, Civic and Social Literacy, Health Literacy, and Financial Literacy.  An understanding of these five literacies are essential to greater success as students, parents, employees, consumers, and as Pennsylvania citizens.  Bundled together, the five literacies are known as the PA Forward 21st Century Literacies.

York County Libraries (YCL) are raising awareness of our events and services that help people improve their command of the PA Forward 21st Century Literacies.  We are being recognized by the Pennsylvania Library Association’s PA Forward initiative for our work incorporating the 21st century literacies into our libraries.

To date, three YCL libraries have achieved Star Status through the PA Forward Star Library Program.
