34th Annual A Celebration of Poetry Contest

York County Libraries presents the 34th Annual ‘A Celebration of Poetry’ contest for children in 1st-12th grades in York and Adams County (PA). We will accept poetry submissions between November 20, 2022, and January 20, 2023.

We encourage submissions on the online form here: www.yorklibraries.org/poetry. You may also drop off poem entries in person at your local library in both York and Adams Counties, Pennsylvania.

Keeping Poetry Fun!

During the nine-week submission period, York County Libraries will encourage youth to explore poetry with the release of weekly themes and writing prompts to inspire young writers via brief videos.

Forms of poetry, examples of past winners, and samples of famous poetry will also be provided on a weekly basis on social media.

Full details and the electronic entry form are available on the ‘A Celebration of Poetry‘ webpage.

Celebrating the Winners!

Local poets, authors, and community leaders will judge the submission after the last entry date. We’ll contact the winners as soon as we know them! Winners may also submit original artwork to illustrate their poem. The winning poems will be printed in the 2023 A Celebration of Poetry book. Each winner will receive one complimentary copy of the book.

Our A Celebration of Poetry celebration event is slated for Wednesday, April 26th from 6-8pm. The winners are invited to read their poetry aloud and share their work. This will be the first year that the poetry celebration event will be open to the public.

Please join us in honoring our young poets!
