2023: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Celebration
We Celebrated!
On Friday September 8th, York County Libraries celebrated the children who completed 1000 Books Before Kindergarten this year! This is the fifth year for our 1000 Books program. We had approximately 150 children and family members attend the celebration. Thank you for making it a magical night.
The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Annual Celebration included a special presentation by Kathy MacMillan, author of The Runaway Shirt. Each young reader was individually recognized and received their very own copy of The Runaway Shirt as well as a completion certificate. Then everyone joined us in celebrating at the end with some a dance party and some snacks!

Curious About 1000 Books?
Children who have not yet started kindergarten can be registered for the 1000 Books program at any time! You’ll use the Beanstack tracker app to track your progress; children need their own library card number to participate (it’s free!). Learn more on our 1000 Books page here.
Already enrolled in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, but still working toward your goal? That’s okay! Right after we determine the current year’s completers (based on their logs in Beanstack), we start counting completers for the next year’s annual celebration. And children at any stage are welcome to join us for our Mid-Year Celebration in late winter!
