Martin Library to Host Block Party June 4

YORK, PA – The Martin Library 2023 Block Party and SummerQuest Kickoff will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4. Family-friendly activities will be held outside of the children’s area on Queen Street, between Market Street and E.Clarke Ave.

Philadelphia-based Music Play Patrol’s Miss Shannon will show children and families how to create music using ordinary buckets from 1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. Students from the library’s YCL Teens BeatWay Studio will provide DJ services throughout the event, and children and teens, from birth to 18, can register for the “All Together Now” SummerQuest program. Food trucks will also be available on Market Street for those interested in purchasing food.

“Martin Library is excited to invite our community to the Block Party,” says Martin Library Director Mina Edmondson. “This is a great opportunity for families to have a fun afternoon together and register for SummerQuest.” According to Edmondson, SummerQuest is a free program offered countywide to encourage children of all ages to read during the summer and participate in fun activities at their libraries.

Thanks to the support of The Maple Press Company as the Presenting Sponsor, the festivities are free to attend. Martin Library is located at 159 E. Market Street in York. There is on-street parking near the library, and metered spots are free on Sundays. Anyone with questions about the block party should call the library at 717-846-5300.

Serving the community since 1935, Martin Library is one of York County’s oldest libraries and is a branch of York County Libraries. It is recognized as a PA Forward Gold Star library for its outstanding provision of programs and resources to community members.  Martin Library also holds the distinguished honor of being the first library to receive the Library of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Library Association.
