Libraries Host Special Events for Give Local York

YORK, PA – York County Libraries will host several special events at libraries, local restaurants, and businesses during this year’s Give Local York. The annual online celebration of giving will be held from 9:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4 to 11:59:59 p.m. Friday, May 5. According to event organizers, community members came together to raise a record amount of $4.17 million for 292 local nonprofits in 2022.

“Give Local York spotlights the many local organizations dedicated to enriching the lives of York Countians. It is inspiring to see the collective outpouring of community support for York County’s nonprofits,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “Our libraries are appreciative of the enthusiastic support we receive through this initiative each year. Donations help our 13 libraries connect readers of all ages to information, technology, and educational experiences.”

According to York County Libraries Development Director Janine Pflaum, the libraries have participated in Give Local York since its start six years ago. “Staff members and their library Friends Groups create a variety of fun events to celebrate the day and raise funds for their libraries,” says Pflaum. “There’s such a positive energy as everyone celebrates this annual day of giving.”

Two event highlights this year include a Cinco de Mayo Happy Hour at the Glen Rock Mill Inn patio and bar from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, May 5. The event will be hosted by the Friends of the Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock. In the northern end of the county, Red Land Community Library returns to The Blue Sky Tavern to host their annual Give Local York events. They will be there with musical entertainment, trivia and more on Thursday, May 4 from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Friday, May 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. For a full list of activities and times, check the events calendar at yorklibraries.org.

York County Libraries include 13 libraries that provide the latest in print and digital information, bestsellers, Wi-Fi, story times, book discussions and 80 databases. Their extensive collection includes over 642,000 items and one million digital library materials for loan. All are available for free with a York County Libraries card.
