Winter Reading Challenge 2022: Read for a Better World

From January 1st to January 31st, York County Libraries will participate in Beanstack’s 5th annual Winter Reading Challenge, sponsored by Lerner Publishing Group. This year’s theme, Read for a Better World, encourages readers of all ages to explore diversity, empathy, and action through literature. Read more about this year’s challenge and Lerner’s Read for a Better World initiative.

Beanstack is our digital logging software that has allowed our readers to track over 24 MILLION minutes of reading—and that’s only since 2017!

We challenge our members (of ALL ages) to read at least 500 minutes during the month and keep track of their reading on our Beanstack site at yorklibraries.beanstack.org. Hundreds of libraries and schools across the nation will encourage their communities to read a target number of minutes and books.

With your help, we hope to achieve a total of 300,000 minutes logged for the month of January! During last year’s #WinterRead, 364 participants collectively read 269,345 minutes! Can you help us reach our goal?

Read Free eBooks Online

As this year’s sponsors, Lerner Publishing Group has curated a collection of books that encourage self-reflection and Social Emotional learning. The collection includes books for readers of all ages, and features various authors as well as classic titles such as Twelve Years a Slave, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, and Little Women.

After a reader has registered for the “Read for a Better World” challenge in Beanstack, they will be able to view all titles through the Challenge’s Activities section. Additionally, eBooks are instantly available online for the month of January—no waiting necessary!

Top Libraries win Prizes

The highest participating libraries and schools will have an opportunity to win prizes for their community. This year’s prizes include new book collections, signed books, and virtual author visits. With your help, we can help bring one of these awesome prizes to York County Libraries.
