Renovation Closure Announced

Martin Library in York will close for renovation from December 20, 2021 through January 3, 2022.  During that time, members will not be able to enter the building but can continue to drop off library materials in the outdoor book drops.

Here’s what’s happening during the closure

Demolition will start on the main floor for a complete redesign of the circulation desk and atrium while the Quiet Reading Room gets a face lift.  The changes will create additional space for the community to gather, and feature a centrally located member services desk.

In addition to the demolition in the front of the building, there will be lots of activity in the back.  Staff will move 43,000 books into the transformed Children’s Room and will set up a temporary member services space.

Help available at other YCL locations

Members needing library services during Martin’s closure should visit other YCL locations.  For convenience, members should place holds through the catalog and select a library for pickup over the next several weeks.

Library to reopen with limited services

Martin Library will reopen on January 4, 2022 for holds pickup and limited browsing of children’s materials only.  At that time, library members should enter the library via the Children’s Room entrance on Queen Street.
