National Library Week (April 4–10, 2021) is a time to celebrate our nation’s libraries, library workers’ contributions and promote library use and support.
The theme for National Library Week 2021 is “Welcome to Your Library.”
During the pandemic, library workers continue to exceed their communities’ demands, and adapt resources and services to meet their users’ needs during these challenging times. Whether people visit in person or virtually, libraries offer endless opportunities to transform lives through education and lifelong learning.
National Library Week Celebration with YCL
Join York County Libraries as we celebrate National Library Week by welcoming you to a Roaring Twenties party like those in the Great Gatsby.
YCL Celebration events this month will include:
- Monday, April 5 – “There is No Party like A Gatsby Party” Trivia event, available all month!
- Test your Great Gatsby knowledge with this interactive quiz. Spend a night at Gatsby’s mansion and see if you can survive a group of socialites. If you do not get a 100%, consider coming to our book discussion on April 12th at 6:30.
- Wednesday, April 7 at 12:00 PM – The State Library of Pennsylvania presents a Virtual Author Talk: Phaedra Patrick and The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, live, this date only!

- Boats Against the Current tells the real story behind the famous novel The Great Gatsby and its tragic hero. Historian Richard Webb will join us for an afternoon discussion about the true inspiration for one of the most captivating and iconic characters in American literature, Jay Gatsby: the Great Gatsby himself.

Monday, April 12 at 6:30 PM – The Great Gatsby Book Discussion on Zoom
- The year is 1922, and young Nick Carraway moves to the village of West Egg, where he discovers that his neighbor is the eccentric millionaire, Jay Gatsby. As he and Gatsby become acquainted, Nick is thrown into a world full of dazzling parties, unrequited love, and unchecked idealism.
- Saturday, April 17 at 2:00 PM – Bill & the Belles music performance presented by Susquehanna Folk Music Society.
- Bill and the Belles will offer a virtual performance on Saturday, April 17 at 2 pm as the final program in our two-week long National Library Week celebration. The band has a freewheeling, lighthearted approach to music that has endeared them to listeners of every generation. With a spirited sound that falls somewhere between old-time country and vaudeville, the group puts its own spin on a golden era of popular music, especially the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s.
