We Can Help You: Learn a New Language

Rocket Languages

by Guest Blogger Rebecca Hoffman
York County Libraries Tech Guru

Interested in learning a new language, but find Rosetta Stone is too pricey? Need to brush up since your last high school class? Traveling abroad, and want to at least be able to say “hello” to the locals?

We’ve got a solution for that! Rocket Languages is an interactive language-learning online platform which you can use for FREE with your York County Libraries card. Access the system via our Resources page to get started. You’ll need your name, an email address, and your YCL library card. Make up a password, confirm it, and you’re in! (Learners might find a microphone and a set of headphones to be helpful accessories.)

Your email and password will work to keep track of what courses you’ve done, and will let your learning sync across all your Internet-connected devices, from your computer to your smartphone or tablet (yes, there’s an app for that—but go through the York County Libraries website and register first to gain access for FREE).

Rocket Languages offers an immersive language learning program that includes listening, speaking, writing, and reading. Play games, review vocabulary with interactive flashcards, and learn about the culture whose language you’re learning. Learn as quickly or slowly as you need. Go back and review lessons any time, or skip ahead if you’ve already got the basics down.

Languages Currently Offered:

Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, American Sign Language, Korean, Portuguese, and English as a Second Language.
