Chrysta and her husband, Shawn, have been active in the York community for over 40 years. She currently serves on the boards of Martin Library, Penn-Mar Human Services, and Living Word Church. Her past board service included York County Libraries, the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, Albright Care Services, and YWCA York.
Chrysta served as WellSpan’s CFO before stepping away to be a stay-at-home mom to her son, Curtis, and daughter, Madison. During that time, she ran her own accounting practice until returning to WellSpan in 2015. She retired as VP of Finance in 2021 after 23 years of service.
A Lifelong Connection to Libraries
Chrysta’s love of libraries and reading was sparked in childhood by her mother, Maxine, who read to her regularly from a very young age. Maxine went on to become one of the first librarians at the new local library in their small western Pennsylvania town. For teenage Chrysta, that library was a safe and enjoyable place to spend her Saturdays. Going home with armfuls of books for free was the best!
These early experiences inspired a passion for community service. In 1999, Chrysta was privileged to co-chair the Leadership Division of the capital campaign for Kaltreider-Benfer Library’s new building on South Charles Street in Red Lion. In 2019, she and Shawn co-chaired the Special Gifts Division of York County Libraries’ Imagine, Discover, Connect countywide capital campaign. With decades of leadership service to our libraries, Chrysta serves today as Treasurer of the Martin Library Board.
What Chrysta treasures most about libraries is that they are safe and welcoming spaces rich with resources for lifelong learning and enjoyment. She values their role as great equalizers, free and open to everyone in the community, at every age and stage of life. Chrysta is proud to support the life-changing work of libraries.
