York Cosplay Workshops for Teens Start May 11

YORK, PA – York County Libraries have announced the upcoming York Cosplay workshop series for teens. Returning for the second year, the workshops are open to York County youth, ages 12 to 18. Presenters guide participants through the various facets of cosplay from selecting a character to mastering the walk. And they explain what it means to be part of a fandom: the community, safety, and self-expression.

According to York County Libraries Director of Youth Services Mindy McDonnell, the program aims to help teens build new skills, creativity, and self-confidence. The program includes all fandoms such as comics, anime, manga, role-playing games, television series, books, and movies.

The monthly series will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays, May 11, June 8, July 13, and August 10 at Martin Library in York. The workshops will be held in the library’s second floor Teens space. New this year, two workshops will be held in the Teens area at Guthrie Memorial Library in Hanover. The sessions will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. On Saturday May 11 and June 8.

The workshop series will lead up to YCL’s York Cosplay Teen Fashion Show at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7. It will be part of the 1st Annual York Cosplay Con planned for 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. that day at Martin Library. Youth interested in signing up for the free workshops should register online using the yorklibraries.org events calendar.

“Last year, we launched the York Cosplay workshops and fashion show for York County teens, and the response was resoundingly positive from both the teens and their parents,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “Local experts provided practical instruction that helped teen participants imagine and create their costumes using library resources including sewing machines and 3D printers.” The workshops are scheduled at the following dates and times:
