Library Events Planned for Give Local York

Libraries Host Special Events for Give Local York

YORK, PA – York County Libraries will host several special events during this year’s Give Local York. The annual online celebration of giving will be held from 9:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, May 3. According to event organizers, community members came together to raise a record amount of $4.64 million for 330 local nonprofits in 2023.

“Give Local York spotlights the dedicated work of York County’s nonprofit organizations,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “Together, our organizations are building a stronger York County community and making a difference in many individual lives.”

According to York County Libraries Chief Advancement Officer Kelly Myers, York County Libraries have participated in Give Local York since its start seven years ago. “Every year, our library Friends Groups and staff members look forward to creating special events for this annual 24-hour event,” says Myers. “And this year is no exception. They have a wide variety of activities planned.”

The Red Land Community Library kicks off its Give Local York festivities with Pop Culture Trivia Night from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2. And on Friday, May 3, it will hold an After Hours at the Library Party that will include friendship bracelet making, a family LEGO® build, a derby horse game, and other activities. The library is located at 70 Newberry Commons in the Newberry Commons Shopping Center in Etters.

Heading south, the Search 93–South Central PA Search and Rescue team will be at Collinsville Community Library in Brogue from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The team is conducting a variety of demonstrations including K9, drone, and AED. The library is at 2632 Delta Road on Clearview Elementary School grounds.

In Stewartstown, the Mason-Dixon Public Library will be joining other nonprofit organizations to host a Block Party at the Stewartstown United Methodist Church, 26 S. Main Street. The event will run from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 3 and will include food, crafts, and live music. In Glen Rock, the Friends of the Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock will celebrate Give Local York with Happy Hour from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 3. The event will be held at the Glen Rock Mill Inn, 50 Water Street.

As part of Give Local York events this year, the Friends of Kreutz Creek Library will host their Spring Book Sale from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 from 9:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. Held at the Hellam Township Municipal Building at 35 Walnut Springs Rd, the sale will feature over 15,000 used books, puzzles, DVDs, CDs, and audio books.

In addition to celebrating Give Local York, Martin Library in York City is participating in First Friday festivities from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 3. The library has planned a carnival-style event with activities and small prizes at booths showcasing how the library helps community members. York County Libraries include 13 libraries that provide the latest in print and digital information, bestsellers, Wi-Fi, story times, book discussions and databases. Their extensive collection includes over 560,000 items and one million digital library materials for loan. All are available for free with a York County Libraries card. Community members without a card are invited to request one at yorklibraries.org at no cost.
