A world of reading challenges and activities awaits

Beanstack is the go-to app for logging and discovering books, tracking your reading, and participating in reading challenges and activities. York County Libraries uses it for several programs.

While Beanstack is used during SummerQuest and 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, it’s useful for more than just these programs. You can use it to keep track of your reading at any time, leave or read reviews, and take reading challenges.

Account Management

In Beanstack, the person who manages the account is the Account Creator. Account creators can have multiple Readers attached to the account. We encourage families with multiple readers to use the parent/guardian as the account creator using their library card number.

Tip: If you have an existing account but are having difficulty logging in, try using the last 4 or 6 digits of your library card as your password. The account may be connected to the parent/guardian’s card number.

How to use Beanstack

Need help with using Beanstack? Check below for tips and tutorials!

After you create an account, you now have access to all of York County Libraries’ Beanstack challenges!

Watch the video below for a brief tutorial.

Video Tutorial: Joining Challenges

Please Note: Some challenges offer pre-registration. Minutes logged prior to the challenge’s start date will not count towards challenge goals.

Your account may have multiple Readers, if you have registered as a family or a group. If so, it is important to always check which Reader’s profile you are viewing before adding to your log.

In some instances, you may have multiple accounts for different Readers. This means that you may need to log in to each account separately.

Watch the videos below for brief tutorials on logging with different account setups.

Video Tutorials: Managing Readers

Whether you are enrolled in a challenge or not, you can log your reading at any time!

Don’t forget! If you are logging Activities during SummerQuest, each library event or activity you complete counts as 20 minutes of reading. Be sure to add those minutes separately to your challenge log.

Watch the videos below for brief tutorials.

Video Tutorials: Logging Reading & Activities

Use Tickets & Enter Ticket Drawings

When you earn virtual badges during Beanstack Challenges, you may* be awarded a ticket. Tickets can be “spent” on Ticket Drawings for a chance to win real prizes! *Not all badges earn tickets

Don’t forget! To start earning badges, tickets, and prizes, you must first join any available Challenges. Challenges are held periodically throughout the year.

Ticket Drawings: What to Know

  • All Ticket Drawings have an end date; this may vary by prize.
  • More Tickets entered = More chances to win!
  • Make sure to spend ALL your tickets to increase your chances to win.
  • If you win a Drawing prize, your library will contact you after the drawing ends

Watch this short tutorial for instructions on using Tickets in the Beanstack Tracker mobile app and website.

GO York & Beanstack

Get Outdoors (GO) York is an annual summer program in partnership with WellSpan Health. Participants of all ages are challenged to find 30 posts hidden in York County parks! All participants receive a physical guide booklet and rubbing sheet to collect “etchings” of the hidden posts.

Use Beanstack to track your GO York Progress

Use Beanstack to digitally track your GO York progress and earn entries into the grand prize drawings!

Why is this important?
By collecting data from your logged parks, GO York can receive the proper funding from year to year, allowing this program to remain free for all.

Log Park Posts & Earn Drawing Prize Entries

For every park post you identify and log into Beanstack, you earn one point. Each point you earn increases your chances of winning one of the five grand prize drawings. You can earn up to five entries:

  • 3 Logged Hikes = 1 Participation Prize; No Entries
  • 4-10 Logged Hikes = 1 Drawing Entry
  • 11-19 Logged Hikes = 2 Total Drawing Entries
  • 20-29 Logged Hikes = 3 Total Drawing Entries
  • 30 Logged Hikes = 5 Total Drawing Entries

Watch this short tutorial for step-by-step instructions on using Beanstack for GO York!

Log Reading Minutes & Books Simultaneously on the App

Some Challenges require you to log your time spent reading (minutes), while others simply require a count of books completed.

It is important to know this if you are participating in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten and SummerQuest at the same time.

Watch this video (or download the instructions) to ensure that your reading is counted for both challenges!
