Staff and board members recently gathered at the Dillsburg Area Public Library to display a new, life-saving Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Library Director Keith Greenawalt, along with Board Members Rex Bickley, Lisa Richardson, and Jeanne Luksic, showed off the device made possible through a generous grant from The Peyton Walker Foundation and the York County Community Foundation. It arrived at the library in early June 2026.
An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically checks heart rhythms and delivers an electric shock to restart a normal heartbeat during cardiac arrest. The specific AED unit provides voice instruction to the user and will only initiate a shock to the patient if the unit detects that the appropriate conditions are met.
“This AED is an excellent addition to the library,” said Library Director Keith Greenawalt. “It has the potential to save lives.”
With the device now in place, the library is even better equipped to ensure the safety and well-being of every visitor who walks through its doors.
