Arthur’s Friends Recognized During Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

GLEN ROCK, PA – York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert and dignitaries addressed the crowd gathered during a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony in recognition of the reopening of the Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock. Speakers included Arthur’s Friends President Michelle Siesko, Glen Rock Borough Council President Rollin Apgar, Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries President Denise Sticha, Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries Secretary Marcia Wilson, and York County Libraries Director of Library Relations Ellen Helfrick.

During the ceremony, Siesko accepted the 2025 Library Friends Group of the Year Award on behalf of Arthur’s Friends. Presented by the Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries, the award recognizes the outstanding efforts of Arthur’s Friends in support of the library. Working in collaboration with the Glen Rock Borough Council and York County Libraries, Arthur’s Friends championed fundraising efforts to reopen the library following unexpected water damage.

“When our library closed its doors in February of 2024, it felt like a piece of Glen Rock went quiet,” says Siesko. “But in true Glen Rock fashion, we didn’t give up; we came together. Through determination, creativity, and kindness, we raised $140,000 to bring our library back to life.”

The refurbished library features an open service area, new window seats and seating areas, as well as children and teen spaces. “This is the restoration of a promise. A promise that even after disruption, even after a building that sat dark and silent, this community still believes in learning, imagination and belonging,” says Lambert.

Community members with questions about programs and services are welcome to call the library at 717-235-1127. The hours of operation are Mondays from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., and closed Fridays and Sundays.

The Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock, located at 32 Main Street in Glen Rock, PA, has served the community since 1936. As a branch of York County Libraries, it is recognized for its programs that help community members build the five core literacies championed by the Pennsylvania Library Association PA Forward® program. Literacies including basic literacy, information literacy, civic and social literacy, health literacy, and financial literacy provide the framework for balanced programs to meet the needs of the community. The library’s Friends Group, Arthur’s Friends, has the distinguished honor of receiving the 2025 Library Friends Group of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries.
