Craig Bomberger is exhibiting a selection of artworks he describes as “controlled chaos.” Craig finds it enjoyable to present the juxtaposition of bright and vibrant colors against darker and duller ones, smooth painting versus heavily textured areas, smooth color transitions beside hectic and frantic markings. We invite you to view Craig’s work in our Gallery during the months of July and August.
What is the source of your inspiration?
Inspiration for my artwork comes from everywhere and everyone: nature, past destinations and experiences, music, dreams, and my imagination. One thing that really inspires me is when someone looks at a completed composition and remarks that it’s unlike other works I’ve done or completed.
How would you describe your art?
I describe my artworks as “controlled chaos.” It’s enjoyable to present to the audience: the juxtaposition of bright and vibrant colors against darker and duller ones, smooth painting versus heavily textured areas, smooth color transitions beside hectic and frantic markings.
What do you enjoy most about creating new art?
The thing I enjoy most about creating new artwork is the way in which my imagination is completely unbridled and I can follow where it leads. Often what I think the outcome is going to be is very different from the finished composition; but, the journey in getting there is thrilling!
How do you start new work? Is your process always the same? If not, how does it change?
I start a new artwork in a variety of ways as I use a variety of media to create artworks; sometimes it’s wet-on-wet watercolor washes, sometimes it’s building and layering texture, and sometimes it’s preparing tissue and newspapers coated in transparent colors.
Do you have a favorite or “go to” technique when starting a work?
My “go to” technique in preparing a canvas is to paint it a solid color and brush or layer in texture to later be painted to adhered to later in the process of creating an artwork.
Do you have a favorite medium? Has your preference changed over the years?
My favorite medium, which has remained unchanged for the last two decades, is probably oil paints; however, due to their lengthy drying time and odors [according to some] I don’t work with them as much as I’d like.
Do you ever experience a creative block? If so, how do you rejuvenate your creativity?
I really don’t tend to have a creative block as I’m always playing and experimenting with new things and ideas. I have found in times when I’m tired or unmotivated, more than blocked, that meditating/praying, yoga, or tai chi help to center and focus my energies to work on an artwork.
Do you have a favorite/inspirational quote?
“A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle” – James Keller
Do you have any current or future projects you’d like to share?
I’ve partnered with the LGBT Center of Central PA for the Unapologetically Us Exhibition which is on display through the end of July 2026 more information can be found at https://www.craigscanvases.com/unapologetically-us.
Additionally, the largest project I’ve been working on is to renovate the lowest level of my home into my studio. As requests for artwork, scarves, and other original pieces continue to grow, the space to create those also needed to expand! During this time, I’ve not been creating as much new original artwork, but in the very near future there will be a focus on that once more. Hopefully there will be at least one piece that’s not been shown before as part of my Beyond Books Art Gallery Showing!
Everything that’s available for sale can be purchased at www.craigscanvases.com/shop or by emailing me directly.
