250 Anniversary series: Looking at the United States at 250 from the Centennial President with Kenneth Serfass, Guthrie Memorial Library, Hanover
In 1876, the U.S. was in the centennial year of its founding, celebrating a century since the Declaration of Independence with a large exhibition in Philadelphia. President Ulysses S. Grant officially opened the 1876 Centennial Exposition in on May 10, 1876, the first World’s Fair held in the United States by turning a wheel which engaged a Corliss engine that powered the electric lights in the Exhibition Hall. By 1876 the United States had changed a great deal since its founding.

Soldiers in the American Revolution and the Civil War marched across York County’s soil, something that few regions north of the Mason-Dixon Line can point to. What are the local connections between the two wars, separated by about 85 years? James McClure will talk about links between these two significant wars in two different centuries.

America 250: 26 Historical U.S. Flags Display, Glatfelter Memorial Library, Spring Grove
Come check out the America 250 Historical Flag Display. Walk through and learn about the 26 different flags that have flown as official U.S. flags throughout our 250 year history.
Our 26 American Flag Display is made possible thanks to Kara Wright and The Exchange Club. This display will fly from June 13th to June 26th.
