‘Find Your Joy’ at York County Libraries
National Library Week is April 19 – 25
YORK, PA – York County Libraries joins libraries across the nation to invite community members to “Find Your Joy” at the library during National Library Week, April 19-25. This week celebrates the many ways that libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities.
“Everyone is welcome at the library. We invite you to visit, explore, and stay for a while at any of our 13 locations across York County,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “The library is here for you. It is brimming with books, resources, programs, and services to help you learn, get answers, read, and find your joy. The library is a place you can return to, rely on, and grow through every stage of life.”
According to Lambert, York County Libraries is celebrating National Library Week with a very special event this year, “Beyond the Books: An Evening with Sandra Brown.” The bestselling author is coming to the Appell Center this Thursday, April 23. “This is an incredible opportunity to meet Sandra and learn how she brings her characters and stories to life,” says Lambert. “Popular with our readers, Sandra’s novels have climbed to the top of the New York Times Best Sellers List 78 times. We are delighted that she is coming to York!”
In addition to Brown’s appearance, there are many programs happening at York County Libraries during National Library Week. They include everything from knitting at seven different library locations, a new cookbook discussion group at Collinsville Community Library, a plant swap, chess, story times, science programs, and book sales at Glatfelter Memorial Library, Dillsburg Area Public Library, and Kreutz Creek Library. A full roster of activities can be found online at events.yorklibraries.org
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is an annual observance by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. Mychal Threets, award-winning librarian, author, and new host of the children’s program “Reading Rainbow,” is this year’s honorary chair. The “Find Your Joy” theme amplifies a message that is ever-present in Threets’ viral videos about the innumerable ways people can find joy in the library and in his debut picture book, “I’m So Happy You’re Here: A Celebration of Library Joy.”
York County Libraries (YCL) strengthen the community and enrich individual lives. YCL programs and services help community members build the five core literacies championed by the Pennsylvania Library Association PA Forward® program. Thirteen library locations provide the latest in print and digital information, bestsellers, Wi-Fi, story times, book discussions, and databases.
