Arthur Hufnagel Library Holds Grand Reopening Celebration

Festivities Run November 10 – 22

GLEN ROCK, PA – The Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock will unveil its refurbished space to the community during its Grand Reopening Celebration from Monday, November 10 through Saturday, November 22 at 32 Main Street in Glen Rock. Festivities will include a character scavenger hunt and library trivia during regular operating hours. In addition, there will be special story time sessions held at 10:30 a.m. on November 11, 13, 18, and 20.

Headlining the two-week celebration will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15 in front of the library. During the event, Arthur’s Friends will receive the Friends Group of the Year Award from The Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries. The award is in recognition of their exceptional efforts and achievements in support of the library. Collaborating with York County Libraries and the Glen Rock Borough Council, Arthur’s Friends championed fundraising efforts to reopen the library following unexpected water damage and resulting air quality issues. The group raised the $140,000 needed to repair and remediate the library.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, community members are invited inside the library for tours and to enjoy refreshments from Main St Market and Traveller Coffee Co. There will also be time to get library cards, borrow books, meet Arthur’s Friends and learn about volunteer opportunities.

“We are so excited to welcome everyone back into the library,” says York County Libraries Director of Library Relations and Interim Library Manager Ellen Helfrick. “There is a new collection of books, the same excellent service, and more space for programs. We’ve created a cozy, delightful library setting that will be roomy enough to bring friends.”

The library’s hours of operation are Mondays from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., and closed Fridays and Sundays.  Community members with questions are welcome to call the library at 717-235-1127.

“It is inspiring that Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock library has been a place of welcome and learning for 89 years,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “The dedicated efforts of Arthur’s Friends and the outpouring of community support speaks volumes about this library’s legacy of service to generations of families in Glen Rock. They are truly at the heart of their community.”

The Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock, located at 32 Main Street in Glen Rock, PA, has served the community since 1936. As a branch of York County Libraries, it is recognized for its programs that help community members build the five core literacies championed by the Pennsylvania Library Association PA Forward® program. Literacies such as basic literacy, information literacy, civic and social literacy, health literacy, and financial literacy provide the framework for balanced programs to meet the needs of the community. The library’s Friends Group, Arthur’s Friends, has the distinguished honor of receiving the Friends Group of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries.
