Beyond Books - Local Artists featured at Dillsburg Area Public Library

Cynthia Enanoria

Cynthia will be the featured artist in the Dillsburg Area Public Library’s Beyond Books Art Gallery in July and August 2025.

What is the source of your inspiration?

I was charmed by the stories of the Fae folk in my travels through Ireland. I imagined the children of the Fae playing and having lively conversations with wildlife. So the “Little Conversations” series was created.

My last series of paintings (Pockets for Ukraine) were of a serious nature depicting the anguish of war in Ukraine.  I wanted this series to be lighthearted and fun!

How would you describe your art?

I would describe this series as being whimsical.

What do you enjoy the most about creating new art?

Painting is my happy place.  I love seeing the images from my imagination come to life on the canvas.

How do you start a new work? Is your process always the same, or does it change?

Generally when doing an acrylic painting, I start by looking at images and sketching out different areas that will be in the painting. I try to work out any problems in a sketchbook before transferring the ideas onto canvas. Details are added directly as I paint.

Do you have a favorite or “go to” technique when starting a work?

I try to layer in my backgrounds first. I’ll be honest—I’m a bit impatient and I struggle with this step! I love getting to the main subject quickly.

Do you have a favorite medium? Or has your preference changed over the years?

I love painting mediums of all types—but I do love working with fibers too! It’s very different.

My preference in mediums does change from time to time.  For example, I began as a watercolorist. I still love to go back to watercolor and ink, especially for small detailed studies. But acrylic seemed to be the best choice for this series.

Do you ever experience a creative block? If so, how do you rejuvenate your creativity?

I think most creative people experience times where ideas are not flowing freely.  I remind myself that it is natural and give myself permission to walk away from my work.  I find that embracing another art form, or going to an art museum or gallery will often trigger new ideas and refresh my own creativity!

Do you have a favorite/inspirational quote?

There really are so many great quotes out there from wise individuals. I don’t think I could narrow it down to one.

These quotes are a few of my favorites and inspire me:

“Being an artist is not just about making art: it’s about living a life of creativity.” —Faith Ringgold

“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” —Maya Angelou

“At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.” —Frida Kahlo

“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” —Vincent Van Gogh

Do you have any current or future projects you’d like to share?

I have lots of ideas for new works. I have been collecting fabric and mannequins for a piece about how we view women in society. That work is still in the future. I’m also interested in doing paintings inspired by my travels.

If someone is interested in your work, how can they reach you?

If interested in purchasing any of my paintings I can be reached through my email. Please write PAINTING in the subject line. You can email me at harpergirl1313@gmail.com.
