About the Artist

Steph Holmes’s journey as an artist began in childhood, exploring the forests near her home and developing a profound connection with nature. She went on to major in ceramics and drawing at Millersville University, earning her BFA in 2012. After many years in the working world, Steph decided to pursue her art full-time in July of 2024. You can find her now in downtown York, PA, in the Steph Holmes Artist Studio, located at 336 W. Market Street.

Steph’s work reflects the healing and tranquility she finds in nature, bringing the beauty of the outdoors into every piece she creates. Her art is divided into two primary bodies of work: intricate, layered scenes on canvas that explore the spiritual connections and meanings behind animals, and three-dimensional paper sculptures, which capture the breathtaking details of winged insects. She is currently working on a new series featuring a wall of painted insect specimens alongside a collection of canvas pieces that explore animal connections and spiritual symbolism.

You can enjoy some of Steph’s favorite books and authors right here at Martin Library. It will be no surprise that they are nature-based! Several of the books have youth versions as well.
