Festivities Slated December 6
BROGUE, PA – Collinsville Community Library, in partnership with several area organizations, will host the second annual Brogue Community Tree Lighting celebration on Friday, December 6. Festivities start at 5:00 p.m. and conclude with the lighting of the tree at 7:00 p.m. The free event will be held at the Collinsville Community Library at 2632 Delta Road in Brogue. An inclement weather date is set for Tuesday, December 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
“The Collinsville Community Library, along with our community partners, is proud to again be hosting this event for the 2024 holiday season,” says Collinsville Community Library Manager Jan Vergos. “Even though last year’s weather for the event was not optimal, our community really came out and supported the festivities. So, we are excited to once again offer this as a time for togetherness where families can enjoy free and low-cost activities as they get into the holiday spirit!”
Festivities planned for the evening include:
- Holiday Shoppe presented by the Clearview Elementary School PTO
- Story time featuring local author M. J. McCluskey
- Meet and Greet with Corporal Kauffman and K9 Sargeant Prince from York County Sheriff’s Office
- “Berenstain Bears” story time with Clearview Elementary School Reading Specialist Lindsey Howell with an appearance by storybook characters Mama and Papa Bear

“The library is the perfect gathering place for the upcoming tree lighting,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “Once again, the library and their many community partners have created an evening packed with fun for families to enjoy and celebrate the holiday season.”
According to Vergos, she and Sam Waltemyer, the library’s youth services coordinator, decided immediately after last year’s event that they wanted to make this an annual tradition. They started planning in the fall and again received enthusiastic support from the library’s friends, volunteers, members, and area residents. Many community partners came on board to bring the festivities to fruition. They include the Chanceford Township Board of Supervisors, Brogue Community Lions Club, Clearview Elementary School PTO, Mason-Dixon Lions Club, Dependable Construction Code Services LLC, and RSI Hardware. In addition, River Rock Landscape, LLC is donating and setting up this year’s tree. Anyone with questions should contact the library at 717-927-9014 or collinsvillelibrary@yorklibraries.org.
