Art in Martin, November-December 2024: Andi Simpson
Art in Martin’s featured artist for November and December 2024 is Andi Simpson. You can see her work in the Lounge on the ground floor of Martin Library.
About the Artist
Color combinations in the wild.
How colors build relationships.
My dreams.
These are all things that inspire Andi Simpson, the Art in Martin artist for November through December 2024.
Andi’s paintings begin with a foundation comprised of multiple layers of color and a variety of textures. Defined shapes and forms present themselves organically as the piece progresses. Viewing her paintings, you will encounter an ethereal sense of warmth, light, and love but also experience the sensitive chaos found in nature. Her works are not intended to espouse a specific message or extract a uniform reaction but instead to provide a perpetually novel experience to each viewer, evoking unique visceral responses.
Andi works with a variety of mediums, including acrylics, inks, and oils. She is currently working on a series of paintings based on what it looks like to “give people grace,” whether that be the grey area or the hard lines someone creates when it comes to acceptance and forgiveness.
Andi is located in downtown York, Pennsylvania and holds a BFA from Frostburg State University.
Sources of Inspiration
It should come as no surprise that, when asked to provide ideas for books that could be selected to “pair well” with Andi’s works, she listed dream definition books, Bob Dylan, color inspiration books, art history, and abstract art. Below are just two items in Martin’s collection that can deepen your enjoyment of Andi’s exhibit.
Dylan, located on Martin’s 2nd floor in the Biography glade, under Dylan: https://york.chilipac.com/eg/opac/record/2182837
