American Roulette Authors Discuss Gun Violence Epidemic

ETTERS, PA – Three authors of the novel “American Roulette” will visit Red Land Community Library in Etters at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24. The Reverend Matthew Best, Sherry Knowlton, and Pat LaMarche will talk about their book and its core subject: gun violence. They represent the eclectic group of eight authors who spent six months collaborating on the novel. Online registration is requested for the free program at www.yorklibraries.org/events.

The story is set in a shopping mall. Each author created one of the eight key characters—complete with a supporting cast—who find themselves sharing a common destiny. Readers have but a single day to get to know each of the protagonists before time and circumstances seal their fate.

Rev. Best wrote the Chris Dietrich chapters in the novel. Rev. Best serves as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Harrisburg, PA as well as the executive director of Health Ministries at Christ Lutheran which provides free medical and dental care.

Knowlton wrote the Earl Bricker chapters, and is the award-winning author of the Alexa Williams suspense novels. Knowlton spent much of her early career in state government policy and administration, working with social and human services programs. In the 1990s, she served as Pennsylvania’s Deputy Secretary for Medical Assistance.

LaMarche wrote the Emma Franz chapters. She is an award-winning broadcaster, journalist, and author. Following her 2004 run for Vice President of the United States – a year of her life she dedicated to speaking out against homelessness and its victims – LaMarche became a shelter director caring directly for those experiencing housing and food insecurity.

“Each of these authors have a unique perspective to share through their work as authors and professionals,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “The evening’s discussion will delve into the critical issue of gun violence facing our communities.”

Books will be available for purchase and signing after the panel discussion. Proceeds support gun violence prevention groups. Individuals wanting more information about the program should visit the website or call the library at (717) 938-5599.

Red Land Community Library is a branch of York County Libraries. As a PA Forward Gold Star library, it provides programs and resources to support the success of all members of the community. The library is at 70 Newberry Commons, Etters, PA 17319 in the heart of the Newberry Commons shopping center.
