Library Hosts First Brogue Community Tree Lighting  

Festivities Slated December 1 

BROGUE, PA – Collinsville Community Library, in partnership with several area organizations, will host the first Brogue Community Tree Lighting celebration on Friday, December 1. Festivities start at 5:00 p.m. and conclude with the lighting of the tree at 6:30 p.m. The free event will be held at the Collinsville Community Library at 2632 Delta Road in Brogue. An inclement weather date is set for Tuesday, December 5 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. 

“The Collinsville Community Library, along with our community partners, is proud to be hosting the first event of this kind in our community,” says Collinsville Community Library Manager Jan Vergos. “We are looking forward to the festivities, camaraderie, and the opportunity to showcase our library. We are blown away by the support we’ve received from the community and can’t wait to celebrate with everyone!”     

Festivities planned for the evening include: 

  • Holiday display by the Brogue Community Lions Club 
  • Holiday Shoppe presented by the Clearview Elementary School PTO 
  • Story time featuring local author M. J. McCluskey 
  • “Santa Bruce” story time with Clearview Elementary School Reading Specialist Lindsey Howell with an appearance by storybook character Bruce the Bear 
  • Entertainment by Sam Waltemyer Piano 
  • Pennsylvania State Police “Meet the Troopers” 
  • New Bridgeville Memorial Fire Company Fire Truck 
  • Crafts for kids 
  • Community choirs 
  • Library card sign-up 
  • Silent auction  
  • Food trucks 
  • First Brogue Community Tree Lighting 

“Collinsville Community Library is at the heart of the community, and it is perfectly fitting that they are bringing everyone together to welcome the season,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “Together, with their many community partners they have created a fun and inviting celebration for all to enjoy.”  

According to Vergos, she and Sam Waltemyer, the library’s youth services coordinator, started planning the event in August. They received enthusiastic support from the library’s friends, volunteers, members, and area residents. Many community partners came on board to bring the festivities to fruition. They include the Chanceford Township Board of Supervisors, Brogue Community Lions Club, Clearview Elementary School PTO, Mason-Dixon Lions Club, Dependable Construction Code Services LLC, and RSI Hardware. In addition, River Rock Landscape, LLC is donating and setting up this year’s tree. Anyone with questions should contact the library at 717-927-9014 or [email protected]

Collinsville Community Library is at 2632 Delta Road in Brogue, PA on the Clearview Elementary School grounds. The library is known for its family-friendly staff, fun educational programs, and access to computers and high-speed internet. Collinsville Community Library is a branch of York County Libraries which includes 13 libraries spanning York County’s 911 square miles. Together, the libraries provide the latest in print and digital information, bestsellers, Wi-Fi, story times, book discussions and over 50 databases. In addition to an extensive collection of 534,000 physical items, the libraries offer over one million digital library materials for loan. All are available for free with a York County Libraries card that works at all 13 locations. Community members without a card are invited to request one at at no cost.
