Martin Library to Participate in 2023 GivingTuesday

YORK, PA – Martin Library in York will participate in this year’s GivingTuesday on November 28. This is the fifth year that Martin Library is taking part in the global day of giving which started in 2012 as a simple idea; a day that encourages community members to do good. Eleven years later, GivingTuesday has grown to inspire millions of people worldwide to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity on the same day.

According to the GivingTuesday organization, generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others. It can be expressed by helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes. Every act of generosity counts. The library is among the many organizations worldwide who depend on the support of their local communities to help carry out their missions.

“Martin Library is a leader in library service,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “The staff works to provide residents with current library materials, relevant resources, and unique educational opportunities. These professionals offer everything from a solver space for teens, to the sensory garden for children, to regular times for adults to connect with local community agencies at the library.”

Since last year, Martin Library welcomed an increase of 17,762 visitors to its newly renovated building and registered 4,461 new members for a library card. The library also added 9,177 new items to its collections for loan and provided 581 programs to the community.

Individuals interested in including the library as part of their GivingTuesday or year-end giving can do so at donate.yorklibraries.org. Contributions help the library continue providing free and low-cost services for the entire community.

Martin Library is a branch of York County Libraries.  It is located at 159 E. Market Street in the City of York and as a PA Forward Gold Star library provides programs and resources to support the success of all members of the community.  Martin Library holds the distinguished honor of being the first library in Pennsylvania to receive the Library of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Library Association.  Martin Library has been transforming lives and serving communities since 1935.
