Martin Renovations-What To Expect In The Coming Months

Hard Hats, Hammers and Hazard Tape

Miss Trish, seen here wearing a hard hat, gives her expert approval to the renovations planned for the lower level Children’s Program Room.

As work in the lower level of the library nears completion, collaborative work spaces for Martin staff are created. Resulting in more space for our members and their families.

Renovations Begin

Beginning July 5, 2021, our members will be able to see and hear the renovations starting on our public floors. The second floor is the first area closed to the public. The adult Non-Fiction books and DVDs, Spanish language materials, and Teen collections will be unavailable for the public to browse.  Staff have already emptied shelves and shifted collections. Our Member Services desk staff will assist members in placing holds on these materials.

Next Steps

In the fall, after the completion of Summer Quest and children return to school, renovations of the Children’s Room begin. During this time, Martin Children’s collections will be unavailable. Members may request their favorite titles from our other York County Libraries.

What Happened To The Desk

Later in the Fall, the Market Street entrance to Martin Library’s Main floor closes. With this closing, all Martin Adult Collections will be unavailable. The space where the Main Desk was previously located will be transformed into a comfortable seating area for the community to read, relax and interact.

At this time, the renovated Children’s Room will be revealed. Look forward to seeing Turtle Baby and his new new home in the sensory garden.

Martin will return to Quick Pick Up of holds. Remember, the full collection of materials from all 12 York County Libraries are available to our members.
