Because words can change the world…

The 2019 Celebration of Poetry Winners are Here!

April is National Poetry month, and we’re celebrating our newest poets right here in south central Pennsylvania!

Earlier this year, we asked students from across York and Adams Counties to submit their best poems for our annual Celebration of Poetry. The judges read dozens of entries in six different age brackets.

The topics the poets chose ranged from nature and animals, to people and current events, to stars and the universe!

All showed that our young library members are full of big thoughts, great words, and lots of creativity!

Now, the results are in.

Join us for a Celebration of Poetry on April 3 at 5:30pm in Martin Library. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age bracket will perform their winning pieces. The poems will also be published in the book “A Celebration of Poetry,” which will be added to the library’s collection.

Can’t make it to the celebration event? Read the winning entries right here:

Congratulations to all of our winners, and a huge thank you to all who entered—please keep writing and sharing your work with the world. The world needs its poets and artists!

Thanks for participating, and we hope to see even more entries next year!

What is the Celebration of Poetry Contest?

Celebrate the creative minds of York and Adams County’s youth at this annual event! The Celebration of Poetry Contest showcases the poetry created by students in Grades 1-12.

Students submit their works for judging prior to the night of the event, and winners will be announced at the event. There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner in the following categories: Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6, Grades 7-8, Grades 9-10, and Grades 11-12. A compilation of winning poems will be added to the collection at York County Libraries. Winning submissions will be added to this page shortly after the celebration in April.

All are welcome to attend the Celebration of Poetry! Check our Events Calendar for more information about this year’s Celebration of Poetry Contest!
