Book Reviews by Young Readers

Our SummerQuest kids have been busy reading this year.  Want to know what our young readers recommend?  Check out these reviews!

New Reviews

In July, we received this review from a second grade girl.  We appreciated this review so much that we ordered the two most recent books in the series for our library.  Look for Hope McLean’s books Keep Friends Close, Emeralds Closer and Battle of the Brightest in the “New Book” section of the children’s room in September.

Keep Friends Close, Emeralds Closer

Jewel Thieves by Hope McLean

I like it because it is a mystery style book.

A first grade girl left the following review in July.  Again, we couldn’t resist picking up a copy for our library.  We hope more kids enjoy borrowing and being inspired by Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling.  Look for it in the “New Book” section of the children’s room in September.

This was a great book that lets you know you can do anything you put your mind too.

Antarctic Antics: A book of Penguin Poems by Judy Sierra

This is my favorite book ever. I love the poems and I have them all memorized. Sometimes I even say them without having the book. There are lots of facts about penguins in this book. I really love the predator riddles part. There is a movie about this book from Weston Woods. They turned the poems into songs! I love this book.

The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning by Chris Colfer

This series is awesome. I have read all of the books at least 3 times. My mom is reading it too, but she isn’t as fast as I am. This is book 3 in the series. There are new characters in this book. I am trying not to give away too much. There are characters from the Otherworld who enter the Fairy Tale World. It is great!

An eight grade girl shares this review about book 3 of the Baby-Sitters Little Sister series.

Karen's Worst Day (Baby-Sitters Little Sister, No. 3)

Karen’s Worst Day by Ann M. Martin

This is a book about a girl named Karen. Karen is six and a half years old, and has the worst day she’s ever had. Karen has a fight with her brother and sister, a fight with her friend Hannie, discovers a rip in her stuffed animal, gets sent to her room, and lots of other bad things. At supper that night, she figured out 14 bad things had happened to her. However, she has a really good end to her day. This was a good book.😃

A fifth grade boy reviews Jack and the Beanstalk by Sindy McKay and two Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling:  Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
