The week of October 14-19 is a special time in our community, and this year’s Fair will be no exception. One of the big attractions is a completely restored 1950 Super A Farmall tractor, pictured here, which will be raffled off Saturday evening, October 19. The tractor has been on display throughout the summer at various shows including Williams Grove in May and September, and National Night Out in August. The tractor was donated to the Antique Farm Tractor Committee and restored through generous donations of labor and funds from local enthusiasts.
There will also be the usual display of Antique Farm Tractors and an Antique Car, Tractor, and Street Rod parade through town starting at 2:30, which is always interesting for adults and children alike.
If you’re interested in learning more about tractors before the Fair, the Dillsburg Area Public Library has some great books in the adult nonfiction area, like Farm Tractors by Lester Larsen. Kids’ books on tractors include the nonfiction Tractor by Claire Llewellyn, and the perennial favorite Duck on a Tractor by David Shannon.
Our library also features a unique section of historical references on Dillsburg and Farmers Fair. Dillsburg Sesquicentennial, Our Heritage commemorates the town of Dillsburg’s 150th anniversary, which occurred in 1983. Celebrating 100 Years of Farmers Fair was published in 2015 on the Fair’s anniversary. The Library also has a copy of the 2015 Farmers Fair DVD, which contains many interviews and clips of memories from past fairs. The Dillsburg Area Public Library is a valuable resource of information for any celebration!
Make sure you stop by the Community Hall to see both the Library’s display and to see the Pumpkin Decorating Contest that is sponsored by the Library.
