The following has been edited to reflect changes to the service made in 2021. For full 2021 Hotspot Rental information, follow the above link.

YCL is happy to announce we’re bringing back Wireless Hotspot rentals—now at more YCL locations!

What’s a Wireless Hotspot?

It’s a portable device that allows you to take a cellular Internet connection with you. It’s perfect if you live in an area that can’t get cable Internet or if you don’t have a data plan on your cell phone right now. This is also an easy way to take a hotspot for a test drive if you’ve been thinking about buying one for yourself.

Here’s how it’s going to work:

Adults 18+ years old with their own YCL library card in good standing with a valid, current, government-issued ID may rent a hotspot at their YCL library on a first-come, first served basis.

Note: While we are rolling out this service county wide, the rental fee will be $20 per checkout (so it’s a great time to see if this works for you!). The rental cost may change in the future for later checkouts.

This rental fee is payable by cash or card when the hotspot is checked out. They check out for 4 weeks and are not renewable.

All Hotspots will be checked for damage and each unit will be manually sanitized upon return.

The essential details:

All hotspots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis—holds cannot be placed on these items.

We will include easy set up instructions. Once set up, connect your device(s) via Wifi, and enjoy Internet on the go! There are no data limits, but the network may slow down at times based on network traffic.

Hotspots will shut off after their checkout period, and overdue Hotspots accrue $2 daily fees. (We can notify you via email or text if library items are getting close to their due dates.)

When you return a hotspot, you can ask at the desk if another is available to check out. We cannot renew the one currently checked out to your card. We cannot guarantee that another will be available, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Hotspots must be returned to the same library they came from, so if you check one out at Collinsville Library, please return it to Collinsville Library. You may place it in the book drop if the library is not open.

A lost or damaged Hotspot will accrue a replacement fee.
