Volunteer! Give the Gift of Time and Knowledge...
If you are a teen or adult, age 13 and older, we'd love to have you join our volunteer team! Our libraries would not be the same without volunteers. This core of exceptional individuals help with everything from clerical support to shelving books to assisting with children's programming. Volunteers serve at all thirteen of our libraries and in several of our behind- the-scenes departments.
We need you
You have special skills and talents that can enrich the lives of the community members we serve. By giving the gift of your time and knowledge, there are many things you can accomplish as a volunteer.
Here are just a few:
•Assist our staff to make storytime special for a child
•Get books into the hands of patrons
•Support new parents as they teach babies about books
•Keep the library "clean and green"
•Assist us in keeping our shelves stocked and filled with our wonderful books, DVD's, Audiobooks, Video games, and Music
•Become involved with a Friends of the Library group to raise funds and awareness of Library needs.
•Work our Customer Service desks
•Manage Book Sales
And many more opportunities...

Ensuring the safety of the Library Community.
York County Libraries value and accept the participation from many community partners – individuals, groups and businesses. Our commitment to the community is demonstrated in many ways, including reference and background checks of all who wish to serve through us.
Background checks are meant to ensure the safety of all members of the Library community. Volunteers pay for the background check and child abuse clearance.

Finding Your Fit
At York County Libraries, long and short term assignments, and flexible scheduling can be designed for volunteer work. Every effort will be made to match your individual interests to a library need.
Volunteer opportunities will be discussed during your interview. Each library has a variety of needs and you will be provided with task descriptions and special requirements to meet your desire to volunteer.
Did you know that in 2015, over 1.9 million items were borrowed from our 13 libraries? That's a lot of use! Our volunteers helped make this happen by collectively donating 67,300 hours of their time to re-shelve the library materials and to provide quality customer service to nearly 185,700 library cardholders! We greatly appreciate the year round contributions of our volunteers!
