Gardening Series at Paul Smith Library
Pat
Sweetman is a Penn State University Master
Gardener/Composter, past-President of the Partners in Thyme
Herb Club, and Chairman and founding member of the
Mason-Dixon unit of the Herb Society of America. Sweetman
has taught adult education and was selected as “Educator of
the Year” in 1997 in the Baltimore County Adult Education
Program. She has studied garden design and cooking.
Sweetman owns Stone Haus Herbs, a small herb shop
specializing in the more unusual and hard to find cultivars
of favorite herb plants, herbal crafting supplies and
crafting workshops.
“Gardening on the Cheap” is gardening for frugal people.
Learn ways to save money on seeds and plants as well as
harvesting your crops, flowers and vegetables. It may take a
little longer... it may take a little ingenuity... but it
does not have to look cheap! Some info will be time-saving
as well as cost-cutting.
“Herbs to Use Everyday” will cover what to plant to enjoy
fresh in the summer, as well as what works well to preserve
for use the rest of the year.
“Gardening for the Lazy” is a collection of tips and tricks
learned over the years from extensive reading and chats with
friends and strangers. Shortcuts may help save time and
trouble, and produce more with less work. Sweetman says, “I
have yet to meet a lazy gardener, but I have yet to find one
that is not too busy.”
