Donating Materials

Martin Library welcomes your donations of materials.  We request that donors bring in items during library hours so that staff may evaluate them.  We carefully review donated items to determine the potential value to library patrons.  If our staff determines that the Library needs a donated item, we add it to the collection.  If the Library does not need an item, the item may be added to our ongoing book sale, but will not be added to the collection.  Please bring the donated materials to the main desk along with a note listing your name, mailing address and telephone number.

Items we will consider:

·         Hardback and paperback books no more than 5 years old

·         Children’s and young-adult books

·         Audio books in good condition

·         Movies (DVDs) -- feature films and children’s

Items which will not be considered:

·         Books that are musty, moldy, ripped or broken

·         Textbooks or instruction manuals

·         Reader’s Digest condensed books

·         Magazines or journals

·         Foreign language books

·         Encyclopedias

·         Any materials more than five years old

It is the responsibility of the donor to provide evidence of the value of the donation in their tax filing process.

Martin Library’s Book Sale

Did you know that the library has an ongoing book sale? It’s located in the Quiet Reading Room.

Among the available merchandise are current adult fiction and non-fiction.  All of the books for sale are in good used condition and modestly priced between 50 cents and $1.  The featured merchandise changes frequently; so stop by often.

The Library’s book sale is run by the Teen Advisory Board (TAB).  Half of the proceeds from the book sale are used to buy new items for the collection and the other half is donated to the Teen Forum for use in their monthly programs.

The teens take great pride and ownership in the quality of the book sale.  Those interested in donating items for the book sale should contact the Library for more information.
