Donating Materials
Building our collection

York County Libraries welcome your donations of materials.  We request that donors bring items in during library hours so that staff may evaluate them.  We carefully review donated items to determine the potential value to library patrons.  If our staff determines that a library needs a donated item, we add it to the collection.  If a library does not need an item, it may be added to an ongoing book sale.

The general guidelines for donating materials are as follows:

Items in good condition we will consider:

Hardback and paperback books no more than 5 years old
Children’s and young-adult books
Computer games
Music (CDs)
Audio books
Movies (DVD's) - children's and feature films

Items which will not be considered:

Books that are musty, moldy, ripped or broken
Textbooks or instruction manuals
Reader’s Digest condensed books
Magazines or journals
Foreign language books
Encyclopedias
Any materials more than five years old

If you have books that you would like to donate, click here for a list of libraries that take donations.

A receipt for tax purposes is available upon request; however, it is the responsibility of the donor to provide evidence of the value of the donation in their tax filing process.
