Newspapers Many, though not all, of the York County libraries receive a local daily newspaper. In most cases backfiles are maintained for a short period, typically from a week up to a month. If you are interested in a particular paper, you should call the library to see if it is available. Those libraries with more extensive collections are: Hanover Public Library - Hanover Public Library has the largest collection of newspapers in the York County Library System. Loose back issues of newspapers are kept in the main library. Click here for a list. Extensive microfilm backfiles of the York Dispatch (March 19, 1925 - June 30, 2003) and York Daily Record (April 30, 1882 - December 31, 2003) as well as the Hanover Evening Sun (April 1915 to the present) and other early Hanover papers are available in the library's Pennsylvania Room. Dispatch for the current year and several out-of-town papers for the current
and previous month.

Microfilm of the local newspapers may also be found at the following area libraries: York County Heritage Trust - The Trust's library has the York Daily Record from 1822 through the present and the York Dispatch from 1925 through 1971. (The Heritage Trust charges $6.00 per day for non-members to use their library. Annual membership is $40 for individuals.) York College - The college's Schmidt Library has the York Daily Record from 1971 through the present.
