Martin Library's 21st Annual Poetry Contest

Submission Guidelines
1.
Entrants may submit
one original poem.
You may enter only once.
2.
Poems must be the work
of individuals. No collaborative
efforts will be allowed.
3.
Poems will be accepted
only between
Monday, October 13, 2008 and
Saturday, January 10, 2009.
4.
Poems may be entered in
the following ways:
Deliver your poem to the Martin Library
Children’s Library at
159 E Market St,
York
PA
17401.
Email your poem to
chathaway@yorklibraries.org.
Please note: all poems submitted via email must be in
Microsoft Word or .pdf format Poems not
in Microsoft Word or .pdf will not be accepted.
5.
Each poem submitted
must have the following information in the upper right-hand corner:
Entrant’s Name
Parent’s Name
Phone Number with Area Code
Grade
Name of School
Poems entered without the proper identification will be
disqualified!
6.
Poems should be typed
or neatly printed.
7.
Poems will become the
property of Martin Library and will not
be returned. Pease keep a copy of
your poem for yourself.
8.
Entry categories are as
follows:
Grades one and two
Grades three and four
Grades five and six
Grades seven and eight
Grades nine and ten
Grades eleven and twelve
There will be a first, second and third place winner in each
category.
9.
Poems will be judged by
a panel of independent judges no later than four weeks after the deadline, and
the winners will be contacted directly.
All winners will be contacted no later than February 28th,
2009.
10.
Winning poems will be
compiled into a booklet that each winner will receive and that will be placed in
circulation in the Children’s Library.
11.
Poems will be judged on
originality of content, style, creativity and presentation.
12.
All winners will be
invited to read their poems at “A Celebration of Poetry,” Martin Library’s 21st
Annual Poetry Night on March 26, 2009.
