Martin Library is approved to receive donations through the
Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) from eligible
businesses in support of the Summer Reading Club (SRC) and author
visits.
Deemed
innovative educational programs because both enhance the academic
curriculum within our county school districts, the SRC prepares
students for the start of the next school year through an incentive
based reading challenge and author visits bring renowned children’s
authors into the classroom.
In 2007 these programs were supported by $96,000 in EITC
contributions.
Each year the state legislature determines the amount of tax credits
available for award to eligible businesses.
In 2007 more than 18 million dollars was allocated for
Education Improvement Organizations.
Companies authorized to do business in
Pennsylvania who are
subject to one or more of the determined taxes may apply for the
EITC program.
Within PA
most eligible businesses qualify because they are subject to one of
two tax categories: Corporate Net Income Tax and Capital Stock
Franchise Tax.
Eligible EITC businesses may receive a tax credit equal to 90% of
the contribution made if the business agrees to provide the same
amount of contribution to the library for two consecutive
years.
A one-time
donation approves the business for a tax credit equal to 75% of the
contribution.
Mutually beneficial to both the
library and the contributing
company, the EITC program enables businesses to decide how to spend
their tax dollars.
Additionally, tax credits enable eligible smaller businesses to make
contributions when they before lacked the capital to do so.
The EITC program gives the business community a way to be
directly involved in education.
To learn more about how your business may qualify for the EITC
program or how to renew your EITC application, please contact Karla

(July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009) will be accepted by the PA
Department of Community and Economic Development beginning July 1,
2008.
