Interested in Interlibrary Loan?
Here are the steps to follow. Please note that there is a
limit of 2 pending requests at any one time. This includes
holds placed on items owned by York County libraries as well as requests for
materials from outside the county.
If you are an Adams
County resident, click here. If you are a York County
resident, begin with Step One.
Step One:
Check the York County Library System's
online catalog to see if
the item you want is available within the York County Library System. One of
the best ways to search an online catalog is by keyword, using a word or two
from the title of the book plus the author's last name. If you find what you want, click on the
Request it button to place a hold on it. Be sure to fill in your
name and barcode and select the library where you want to pick it up.
Items that are currently checked in can be delivered to your library in just
two or three days. Other items will be delivered as soon as they
become available.
Step Two:
If the item you want is not available in York County, check
the Adams County
Library System's online catalog. If you find what you want, contact your
local library. They will place your hold for you. If the item is
on the shelf, it will be delivered to your library in just a few days.
Other items will be delivered as soon as they become
available.
Step Three:
If the
item you want is not available in York or Adams County, is more than one
year old, and you can wait for it for at least 2 weeks, look for it in the
Access Pennsylvania Database.
(Click on the Search the Database tab.) If you find
what you want, you can request it online using one of the following links:
If you would like to pick up your item at a York County
library not including Guthrie in Hanover,
click
here.
If you would like to pick up your item at Guthrie Memorial Library in Hanover,
Fill in all mandatory fields of the online form. If
you do not need the item by a certain time, leave "Must
have by..."
blank. If you supply a date, the request will be cancelled if it
cannot be filled in time. Most items will be delivered to your library
in 2 to 6 weeks.
Step Four:
You may request items through Inter-library Loan even though you cannot find them in
Access Pennsylvania. It is helpful if you can provide information on
the item from a verifiable source such as
Amazon.com or
World Cat.
Some things, such as reference materials, audio-visual materials, local
histories, genealogical materials, and items that are too new or too old,
cannot be borrowed. To request an item not found in Steps One through
Three,
click here for pickup in York County anywhere except Guthrie Library or
here for pickup at Guthrie Library. This is the same form as in
Step Three.
Fill in all mandatory fields of the online form. If
you do not need the item by a certain time, leave "Must
have by..." blank. If you supply a date, the
request will be cancelled if it cannot be filled in time.
