During the month of February, Larry Lerew, noted local
artist, will display his art inspired by the Dillsburg Area
and other south central Pennsylvania landscapes as well as
his Serendipity Blot Figures at the Library.
Mr. Lerew works in watercolors, acrylics and pastels.
Formerly a graphic artist and illustrator, Mr. Lerew has
also worked as a caricature artist. Following 9/11, he left
commercial art and entertaining in order to pursue his
interest in painting, focusing on local watercolors and
canvas paintings. He is a graduate of Northern High School
and York Academy of Arts.
On Tuesday, February 21st at 6:30 p.m. Professor Jeri Jones
of Jones Geological Services and Dr. Charles Scharnberger,
Professor Emeritus of Earth Science at Millersville
University, will present a program on the recent 5.8
magnitude Mineral, Virginia earthquake and the Dillsburg
earthquake swarm. Both epicenters are located within the
Mesozoic Rift Basin. The program will discuss the
similarities and differences between the two events and
bring up-to-date information about the earth’s movements.
The program is free and open to the public. No registration
is required.
February's Book Discussion
The book discussion selection for February is Major
Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson. In a small
village in the English countryside lives Major Ernest
Pettigrew. The Major leads a quiet life valuing the proper
things that Englishmen have lived by for generations. But
then his brother’s death sparks an unexpected friendship
with Mrs. Jasmina Ali, the Pakistani shopkeeper from the
village.
The discussion will take place on Wednesday, February 22nd
at 1 p.m. All are welcome. Registration begins Wednesday,
February 1st.
